Linux Mint
Ideal for people who want a simple installation
with the multimedia extras. Mint is sometimes described as an
enhanced Ubuntu.
The Mint developers started with Ubuntu and
added a variety of graphical "mint" tools. Its reputation was enhanced
by the inclusion of proprietary and patent-encumbered multimedia
codecs.
Mint uses the Ubuntu repositories meaning that all the Ubuntu
software packages are available.
Mint has released a cut down version for those countries with restrictive
patent laws.
Linux Mint releases in stages several weeks after each stable Ubuntu
release.
Linux Mint does not adhere to the principles of
software freedom.
Linux Mint does not publish security advisories and does not have a
bug-tracking facility - use Ubuntu.
There is no Alternate edition.
Like Ubuntu, Linux Mint can be installed on a Windows machine using
Wubi.
