Solaris started life in 1982 as SunOS, one year
after the first release of MS-DOS. It is a Unix derivative
developed by Sun Microsystems for use on its own hardware. It is
not a form of Linux or the BSDs and up to recent years it has been
a closed proprietary operating system.
Ian Murdoch, the founder of Debian, heads up
the OpenSolaris project and the final result is very much like
Ubuntu so people will have to dig under the surface to discover the
differences between Linux and Solaris.
Delivery by Fast Post is free - non-Linux
